Former Sheffield United manager Paul Heckingbottom is on the hunt for a new job and Championship outfit Plymouth Argyle have been linked with the ex Premier League manager.

According to the Daily Telegraph journalist John Percy, the 46-year-old former Blades boss is one of several candidates that are subject to an interview.

Plymouth Argyle suffered almost relegation from the Championship last season, narrowly stopping up on the final day by just a single point, which saw Birmingham City join Huddersfield Town and Rotherham United in the bottom three.

Despite the Green Army having a standout forward in 19-goal Morgan Whittaker, the club would finish with one of the lowest goal tallies with 59. This, in addition to leaking 70 goals, summed up their campaign as they struggled in both boxes. And their two standout players in either box could be on the move this summer.

Whittaker’s performances have seen the likes of Lazio and Sporting Lisbon linked with the 23-year-old earlier this year and the European duo are set to come knocking for the Englishman’s services once more. To add, promising goalkeeper Michael Cooper has piqued interest of various Championship clubs and even Premier League teams.

Heckingbottom becoming Plymouth Argyle manager could in fact benefit Sheffield United. Because of his links with United’s youth academy perhaps the Blades could see a couple of their top prospects such as Louie Marsh join Argyle on a season-long loan.
