Former Serie A referee Paolo Casarin attacked Roma boss Jose Mourinho for his remarks directed at match official Matteo Marcenaro.
In an interview with ANSA, Casarin – who acted as referee between 1958 and 1988 – unleashed on the Special One with regards to his comments prior to the match with Sassuolo.
“Everyone who knows something about referees knows that Marcenaro is the future of Italian refereeing, he is extremely calm, he is not emotional. Evidently Mourinho doesn’t know him.”
“Yesterday he refereed the match well, without overdoing it, and Roma won with what we know, with an absolutely certain penalty and expulsion. But this happens in most games.”
“When I see a great coach like Mourinho who says all those things before the match, then it means that there is something not working. This freedom to criticize first by bringing up things of little content must not be allowed, these words must be crushed, such behavior cannot be permitted.”
