Former Referee Gianluca Paparesta: “Daniele Orsarto No Longer Takes Charge Of Inter Games For Reasons Of Opportunity” | OneFootball

Former referee Gianluca Paparesta claims that current official Daniele Orsato is no longer scheduled to take charge of matches involving Inter due to previous controversies.

Orsato officiated Inter’s highly contentious 3-2 defeat against Juventus in April 2018 and came under fire for dismissing Matias Vecino but not sending off Bianconeri midfielder Miralem Pjanic, whilst VAR transcripts from the match were later revealed to have gone missing.

Appearing on Italian radio station Radio Kiss Kiss, Paparesta insisted that refereeing in Italy was still of a high standard and that mistakes were genuine, but felt that a failure to use VAR to check decisions was inexcusable.

“There are no preconceptions or foregone decisions. Mistakes are mistakes, even [referee designator Nicola] Rizzoli made it clear,” Paparesta declared.

“Look at the penalties not awarded during Juventus vs Napoli. In the end, the mistakes remain despite being fewer than in the past. Refusing to use VAR is to be excluded and it would be very serious.

“Orsato no longer referees Inter due to reasons of opportunity,” he concluded.

Inter have been assigned Daniele Doveri as referee for tomorrow’s match against Napoli, whilst Orsato will officiate Atalanta vs Juventus.

Former referee Paparesta was implicated in the 2006 Calciopoli scandal, and officially retired from refereeing in 2010.
