Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher has rubbished Tam Courts’ claims that Dundee United should have had a penalty. Carl Starfelt was seemingly fouled in the build up as he was dispossesed by Peter Pawlett. Cameron Carter-Vickers then clashed with Nicky Clark, with the United players and staff calling for a spot kick.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Gallagher said that Clancy showed consistency with his decision making with regards to the incident.

“One thing I would say about this is – you ask for consistency.

“And the referee has been absolutely consistent as I think there’s a foul on a Celtic player just before which was almost identical to.

“He’s allowed both to go with physical contact and didn’t give either decision.

“He’s decided both are comings together and judged both within a couple of seconds the same.”

It was more dropped points for Celtic but Clancy appeared to miss at least one red card offence from the visitors. Fuchs clattered James McCarthy and Siegrist appeared to leave his studs on Liel Abada. The manager will know that he needs to improve performances in the coming weeks and close the gap between Celtic and the top of the table.

Celtic have suffered from a number of injuries so far this season, the return of key players can only boost the performances of Ange Postecoglou’s side. Bayer Leverkusen visit Glasgow on Thursday but there are a number of players missing so the expectation for a result against the Germans is a tall order.
