Former Real Madrid footballer Javi Garcia recently sat down with Diario AS for an extensive conversation where he talked about many aspects of his footballing career.
The Spaniard also offered his outlook towards his former club, Real Madrid’s prospects, heading into the new season.
One of the notable points of the interview saw him speak about Real Madrid’s latest signing, Alvaro Carreras, who joined the club from Benfica earlier this month.
Javi Garcia admitted that he is a huge fan of Carreras before backing him to succeed at Los Blancos.
“He’s a fantastic addition. Álvaro has the ability to play in several positions and do so very well. He can play as a full-back, a third centre-back, or a wing-back,” he said.
Carreras is indeed a versatile asset. But what makes him such an intelligent investment is that he is already used to Real Madrid’s DNA, having been a former graduate of the youth academy.

Talking about Carreras’ adaptation, Garcia believes the Spaniard can be an asset for new coach Xabi Alonso.
“That versatility is highly valued by a manager. He’s also tactically very intelligent, and I think he’s exactly what Xabi is looking for,” he concluded.
A native of Mula, Javi Garcia is also a La Fabrica graduate, who was part of the Real Madrid system from 1996 before leaving permanently in 2009. During this period, he appeared in 90 competitive matches for Los Blancos.
Garcia retired from football in 2022 but remains a close follower of Spanish football.
As for Carreras, it will be interesting to see whether or not he can live up to the expectations at Santiago Bernabeu, especially after the club spent a fortune to secure his services from Benfica.
