Nico Paz left Real Madrid to join Como 1907 in the summer transfer window last year and has made the most of his time in Italy thus far.

The 20-year-old Argentine attacking midfield prodigy has become one of the most important players for Cesc Fabregas’ side in Serie A, racking up five goals and four assists from 22 league appearances.

Real Madrid have a buyback option for their former academy talent while also retaining a future sell-on clause for him.

Return closer

Now, MARCA reports that the idea of Nico Paz returning to Real Madrid in the summer is gaining weight within the club.

Indeed, the Spanish publication claims that the 20-year-old attacking midfielder’s return to the Santiago Bernabeu is getting ‘closer’, although a final decision will only be made at the end of the season.

Nico has always been held in high regard at Real Madrid and having seen him develop so well over the course of the season in Italy, there is a strong consideration to bring him back as a full-fledged first-team player.

It would cost Real Madrid a sum of €9 million to re-sign Nico Paz from Como, a figure which is not seen as an issue by the Spanish capital club, who had already received €6 million from the Italians for his sale last summer.

Given his importance to the team, Como recently attempted to negotiate a deal with Real Madrid wherein they would remove the buyback and future sell-on clauses, only to be shot down by the La Liga champions.

Not the only former player Real Madrid are tracking

As it happens, Nico Paz is not the only former player that Real Madrid are tracking. The Merengues are also closely monitoring Miguel Gutierrez at Girona, with the club retaining a €8 million buyback option for him.

Other youngsters who left the club, such as Alex Jimenez, Rafa Obrador, Sergio Arribas, Rafa Marin, Alvaro Rodriguez, and Mario Martin are all being monitored as well.
