According to De Telegraaf, former Netherlands international Joshua Brenet is on the verge of signing for a new club following his departure from FC Twente. The 30-year-old saw his contract terminated at Twente in July after he was caught driving without a license. Now he’s undergoing medical tests ahead of a move to Qatar Stars League side Al-Rayyan. The three-time Eredivisie champion will sign a one-year deal with the club.
Brenet has spent the last three seasons with FC Twente, where he racked up 23 goal contributions in 74 appearances. The current Curaçao international previously experienced a successful spell with PSV, where he featured 150 times and lifted silverware on five occasions. Other clubs on his CV include Vitesse and Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim.
This week the free agent full-back was heavily linked with a move to Ajax, with multiple reports claiming he’d been contacted by the Amsterdam club. De Telegraaf later reported that he was ‘considered’ as an option by Ajax but never approached over a move. Now he’s set to continue his career in Qatar.
