Montpellier HSC may have found their new manager. L’Équipe reports that Zoumana Camara is expected to take over the club, who are dangerously close to being relegated into Ligue 2.

On Monday, La Paillade parted ways with Jean-Louis Gasset by mutual consent. He had only been appointed as manager on a temporary basis after Montpellier parted ways with Michel Der Zakarian last October.

Camara enjoyed many successful seasons in France as a player, winning three Ligue 1 titles, two Coupe de France and Coupe de la Ligue crowns, and a Trophée des Champions at PSG.

Montpellier are at the bottom of the table with six matches remaining domestically this season with 15 points. They are currently 11 points away from Stade de Reims, who occupy the relegation play-off spot.

This season, Camara has served as a consultant for DAZN, the official broadcaster for Ligue 1. Other names on the Montpellier list, per L’Équipe, were Pierre Sage, who was sacked by Olympique Lyonnais earlier in the campaign, and Jocelyn Gorvennec, who coached in the French top-flight last season at FC Nantes.

Montpellier have been in Ligue 1 since the 2009-10 campaign, winning their only top-flight title two seasons later.
