Former Premier League goalkeeper Ben Foster can’t understand why Chelsea decided to sign Jadon Sancho from Manchester United.

It was once again another busy summer at Stamford Bridge with several new signings as well as a number of players being moved on.

Chelsea failed to sign Victor Osimhen despite the Nigerian being their number one target, but they did bring in attacking talents Joao Felix, Pedro Neto and Sancho.

Foster can’t understand Sancho signing

Sancho was a deadline day arrival from United with the Blues agreeing a loan deal with an obligation to buy between £20-£25m providing they don’t finish in the bottom six of the Premier Leauge.

There’s no denying Sancho at his best is a top quality player, but his time at United wasn’t a successful one with the winger failing to replicate his Borussia Dortmund form and he had a huge falling out with Erik ten Hag last season which was seemingly the beginning of the end.

Many were surprised by Sancho’s move to West London given how fierce competition for places will be in all the wides areas, but with the Blues potentially playing over 70 games this season, as well as injuries and suspensions there will be opportunities for the 24-year-old to show what he can do.

Sancho completed a deadline day move to Stamford Bridge.

However, former United keeper Foster simply doesn’t understand the move or what Chelsea are trying to do and said it really “boggles” his head.

“I still don’t understand what they (Chelsea) are trying to do. I really don’t. The Jadon Sancho move, in particular, really boggles my head,” he told his YouTube channel.

“He’s on loan for a season, they’ve got an obligation to buy if they finish in the top 14, they have to buy him for £25m.

“What? What does that do? He could not play a minute of football for this season, Chelsea finish in the top 10, and they have to spend £25m on him. What world are we living in here?”

Whilst Foster may have a point, it’s likely Sancho will feature a lot more than many people think and Chelsea have clearly signed him for a reason, but only time will tell if it turns out to be a good move or not.
