“We’ve received some terrible news that former National defender and Ex-Aston Villa and Bolton Wanderers player Jlloyd Samuel died in a car crash this morning in England.

“The Trinidad and Tobago Football Association and his former national teammates at this time extends deepest condolences to his family members both in the UK and here in Trinidad and Tobago.”

Samuel, who made 240 Premier League appearances during his career, was just 37.

Born in Trinidad and Tobago, Samuel moved to London for a child and played for the West Ham and Charlton academies before starting his professional career at Villa Park.

Capped seven times by England U21s, he moved to Bolton in 2007 and played regularly until moving to Iran to end his playing career.
