Former AS Monaco Sporting Director Paul Mitchell is one of several names being touted to replace Portuguese Tiago Pinto at AS Roma, reports Santi Aouna of Foot Mercato.

The Italian Serie A outfit recently lost coach Jose Mourinho, who left the club by mutual consent last month, and have set about re-vamping the footballing structure around new coach Daniele De Rossi.

According to Italian media, Mitchell, who left AS Monaco in October 2023, is on a four-man shortlist of candidates for the role that also includes ex-AC Milan director of football Frederic Massara, ex Chelsea and RB Leipzig technical director Christopher Vivell and current Stade Rennais sporting director Florian Maurice.

GFFN understands that a desire to return to his native United Kingdom influenced Mitchell’s decision to leave AS Monaco, therefore making it unlikely that the highly-rated Englishman would relocate to Rome. He has been widely praised for his work not only at Monaco, but also Red Bull (Leipzig and New York) and Tottenham, working alongside Mauricio Pochettino at the time.

Florian Maurice initially left Rennes at the same time as former coach Bruno Génésio back in November 2023, before reconsidering and staying in his post to work alongside current coach Julien Stéphan.

AS Roma’s American owners The Friedkin Group are expected to announce the new Sporting Director within the next two weeks.
