According to ESPN’s Tor-Kristian Karlsen (h/t Mirror), who was also the chief executive at Monaco a few years back, Kylian Mbappe is likely to stay at PSG for another year despite Liverpool links.
The report says that despite Mbappe and Liverpool being linked with each other, only an “incredibly optimistic” fan would see the French superstar make a move to Anfield in the summer.
The 22-year-old spoke about Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp last year. And that is one of the reasons why links between the player and the Reds exist in the first place.
Mbappe is undoubtedly one of the biggest stars in the world right now. He has lit up Europe since his debut season with AS Monaco all the way back in 2015.
Even this season, Mbappe has been scoring for fun. The French international has 37 goals and 10 assists in all competitions for last year’s Ligue 1 champions. (h/t transfermarkt)
Nevertheless, Liverpool don’t seem like they can name Mbappe in their squad next season with his transfer fee and wage being a stumbling block for the Merseysiders. (h/t Mirror)
Mbappe’s contract at PSG expires in the summer of 2022 and he will enter the final year of the deal once the new season begins. If he doesn’t renew his contract, his transfer fee could significantly reduce in the coming months.
Liverpool desperately need a goalscorer to complement Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian winger has been shouldering the goalscoring burden this season and could use all the help he can get next season.
Mbappe is one player who is worth breaking the bank for. But the money involved here could be too much for the Reds to step in and have their say.
