Max Allegri has been heavily linked with AC Milan lately and in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, the former Rossoneri player Riccardo Saponara has heaped praise on the manager.
Saponara came through the youth ranks at Empoli and was signed by Milan in 2013, making his debut from start against Inter that season. While he never blossomed with the Rossoneri, he went on to have a good career in Serie A with various clubs (currently he’s a free agent).
In an interview for today’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (see photo below), the 33-year-old was asked about various topics, including Allegri. The manager was obviously very important for him, giving him a chance with the Milan shirt.
“I would call him a genius, with an intuition and an extraordinary personality. He put me in the starting line-up for the first time in a derby, but he only told me after the finishing touches. He understood my insecurity and wanted to take the pressure off me. He reads people and players like few others: whoever signs him will get a bargain,” he stated.
It’s been reported that Giorgio Furlani has opened talks with Allegri to replace Sergio Conceicao for next season. As of now, however, nothing has been decided and it will also depend on the sporting director.
