In an official statement on social media, Olympique de Marseille confirmed the death of former player Abdelaziz Barrada at the age of 35. The Morrocan attacking midfielder signed for OM in 2014 and went on to play for Les Olympiens for two seasons.
Barrada played 45 times for the Ligue 1 club, scoring 3 goals and registering 9 assists. Marseille were not the only club in France where the Morrocan international trained. Born in France, the attacking midfielder graduated as a member of the Paris Saint-Germain academy. After leaving Les Phocéens, the Morrocan went on to play in Spain and UAE, before retiring in Qatar.
Barrada’s former clubs are set to face each other in Ligue 1 on Sunday in Le Classique. Ahead of the match between the two arch-rivals, representatives of both clubs will come together in a moment of silence to remember the life of the PSG academy graduate, L’Équipe understands.
