Former Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been named in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against South Sudan and Senegal next month.

The West Ham United right-back has officially switched allegiance from England to the Central African nation after obtaining his Congolese passport last week, which now makes him eligible for selection going forward.

Wan Bissaka represented the Three Lions at the Under-20 level, before earning caps for the Under-21 side, with all spells coming in 2018. He made two appearances for the former and managed to feature thrice for the latter.

On the other hand, the 27-year-old, who lifted the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup during his stint at Old Trafford, turned out for DR Congo at the under-17 level, managing to play just once back in 2015.

Now, Wan Bissaka will have his eyes set on making his senior national team debut, as the Congolese look to book a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup that is set to be co-hosted by the USA, Canada and Mexico.

Sebastien Desabre’s men currently top group B with 13 points accumulated from six matches played. The Lions of Teranga and Sudan trail the Congolese with a single point.
