Former Manchester United midfielder Hannibal Mejbri made his debut for Burnley in a 2-0 Carabao Cup exit at the hands of Wolverhampton Wanderers last night.

The Tunisian international had a huge reputation at youth level at United and despite scoring a cracking first senior goal at Old Trafford against Brighton and Hove Albion last September, he failed to make his mark on the first team.

Due to a lack of playing time, he was sent out on loan to Sevilla in Spain but he endured a disastrous time as he barely received any minutes during his time in La Liga.

Hannibal made fleeting appearances for United in pre-season and earlier this week, completed his permanent move to Burnley, where he will be hoping to get his career back on track.

He was thrown straight into the deep end as he started his side’s second round cup tie but could only play the first 45 minutes, most likely down to fitness levels.

A brace from Gonçalo Guedes was enough to give the home side the victory as the away side had 49% of the ball but few chances as they only created 3 to Wolves’ 17 shots on goal.

Starting in an attacking midfield role, sofascore gave Hannibal an average rating of 6.6 for his debut.

He completed 17 out of his 23 passes, giving him a pass accuracy of 74%.

He had 32 touches of the ball in the first half but failed to fire off any shots of any kind as the whole team looked rather toothless in front of goal despite impressive possession statistics.

He did complete one of his three dribble attempts however.

As anyone who has watched the former United man could expect, he was combative, winning four out of his attempted eight ground duels and committed one foul.

Despite the cup exit, there will be plenty of opportunities for Hannibal to develop in the long grind of the Championship season, as he will look to fulfill the promise that once made him such a discussed talent at Carrington.
