Former Manchester United full-back Timothy Fosu-Mensah is currently on trial with newly-promoted Serie A outfit Como, who are monitoring his progress with the possibility of signing him as a free agent during the transfer window.

Who is Fosu-Mensah? Former Man United defender on trial at Como

Fosu-Mensah came through the esteemed United academy, making his Premier League debut under Louis van Gaal in a 3-2 win over Arsenal in February 2016.

After van Gaal’s departure from Old Trafford, however, Fosu-Mensah’s opportunities in the United first team became more of an irregularity, and he was sent out on loan to Crystal Palace for the 2017-18 campaign, where he made 21 league appearances.

He would go on to play for Fulham on a similar loan deal the following season.

Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen snapped the Dutchman up in the summer of 2021, but his career has since taken several serious blows due to injury. There was an ACL tear during his first campaign in Germany, and then a serious hamstring injury picked up during a Europa League clash in 2022.

As a result of those injuries, Fosu-Mensah did not make a competitive appearance last season, while his colleagues went on to win the Bundesliga title without losing a match.

Now a free agent after the expiry of his contract at the BayArena, Como could make the 26-year-old an offer for the former Man United defender if they are impressed with his showing in training.

Como have already added a number of former Premier League names to their squad this summer, including recent Man United defender Raphael Varane, plus Liverpool veterans Pepe Reina and Alberto Moreno.
