Former Manchester United and Chelsea defender feels Lampard is under more pressure than Solskjaer

Former England defender Paul Parker played for both clubs during his career. The right-back has had his say ahead of tonight’s vital premier league clash.

Talking to the Racing Post (via The Sun), Parker feels there’s more pressure on Frank Lampard, than Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to achieve instant success.

Parker dismisses the notion that Solskjaer is under more pressure by saying:

“Although a lot of people are saying United are the club in trouble, I would rather be in Ole’s shoes”.

Chelsea are currently fourth, six-points ahead of ninth-placed United. Despite this, Parker feels that long-term the Red Devils are in a better position to succeed, by adding:

“I think Ole is in the better position because he’s managing a massive club and Chelsea are still trying to get to that level.”

“So I think if he can qualify for the Champions League, or win a trophy, he’s in a much better position going forward with more potential to achieve.”

Parker added to his thoughts by dismissing that Chelsea are simply a team of youngsters.

“People say Chelsea are a young side but they have a lot of experience.”

Parker did admit both managers are under pressure going into tonight’s fixture.

“Both sides can’t afford to drop and points here and I think the pressure is on both managers.”

I’m not sure what point Parker is trying to make really. Both clubs are thriving to succeed, and close the gap on Liverpool. It’s fair to say both clubs are in transition, and building for the future.

Solskjaer needs to deliver just as much as Lampard. In fact he’s had more time, and also been able to dip into the transfer market during his time in the hot-seat at Old Trafford.

Parker spent five-years at Old Trafford, but only made four-appearances for the Blues. Also as a former Fulham, and QPR man, there’s a degree of bitterness to his words.

United will be looking to close the gap to three-points, and climb to seventh this evening. Chelsea could open up a four-point gap on fifth-placed Tottenham, and a nine-point gap on United.

Whatever happens the race is far from over. The Blues face another huge clash on Saturday, as Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham visit the Bridge. It’s feels like a case of make or break, but looking at the bigger picture, Chelsea are overachieving to a certain degree after losing Eden Hazard, and adding no new faces to the squad this season.
