Despite taking the lead in the first half, Manchester United never looked comfortable with the ball and were eventually caught out by the home side. Youri Tielemans equalised for the hosts before they took the lead in the second half.
Marcus Rashford marked his return from injury with a goal late in the game but in bizarre fashion, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side conceded straight from kick-off, with Jamie Vardy scoring the eventual winner.
Former Manchester United defender Wes Brown has slammed the Reds for the manner in which they conceded the goal, arguing that it shouldn’t have happened.
“It’s so frustrating that they scored straight away after we’d got it back to 2-2,” he is quoted as saying by the official Manchester United website.
“It was a great finish from Vardy, but that shouldn’t be happening from a kick-off where we’ve just scored. But Leicester played well: their midfield was very good and they backed it up by getting the goals.”
The defeat puts United in a difficult spot, with a challenging run of fixtures to come. Atalanta await the Reds on Wednesday as they look to end the poor run of form.
