Mikael Silvestre blasted Manchester United’s performance against Crystal Palace on Monday, saying the players were ‘exposed’.

Erik ten Hag’s side delivered one of their worst displays of the season at Selhurst Park and deservedly came away with a 4-0 defeat.

Casemiro and Christian Eriksen were particularly awful, but the whole team underperformed. Silvestre was unimpressed with their display.

“Well, you know if you have a weakness, which is your backline, at least protect it but that wasn’t the case,” Silvestre told Sky Sports News.

“We could see that the players were exposed, like Casemiro losing the ball at the right-back position, losing the ball on the other side in the left-back position.

“I mean that’s not where he is supposed to be. So they should have been more cautious.”

United’s 13th defeat of the season at Palace dropped them to eighth in the standings behind Newcastle United and Chelsea.

Manager Erik ten Hag could still save his job by leading the team to FA Cup success, although it is unlikely they will be able to beat Manchester City in the final.

Pep Guardiola’s side have been near impeccable in 2024 and are on course to win their fourth consecutive Premier League title.

They will be eager to add the FA Cup by beating their local rivals at Wembley Stadium.
