Former Manchester United midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron, who chairs Argentinian side Estudiantes, is reportedly keen to bring current defender Marcos Rojo back to the club on a permanent deal.

Rojo, 30, joined United from Sporting Lisbon in 2014 in a deal worth £18m, as per Transfermarkt.

Since the flamboyant centre-back joined the Red Devils, he has featured in 122 matches in all competitions.

Rojo’s five-year spell in Manchester has seen the South American lift five major trophies, including the 2016-17 Europa League.

However, after a string of underwhelming performances and an unfortunate spate of injuries, Rojo has seen himself fall further down Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s pecking order.

After spending the second-half of last season out on-loan with Argentinian side Estudiantes, Rojo’s long-term Old Trafford future has become the subject of much speculation.

With just under six-months left on his current deal, there have been suggestions the Red Devils’ hierarchy are keen to offload the 30-year-old out of fear he could depart for free in the summer.

However, according to a recent report from Marca the club are now resigned to losing their centre-back in the summer.

It has been claimed that Estudiantes have joined the race alongside Boca Juniors and Mexican side Cruz Azul to land Rojo.

Marca go on to say that Estudiantes chairman Veron is hopeful he can pip Boca Juniors to the permanent signing of the United defender.
