Mason Mount has made himself a fixture at Chelsea, and it’s hard to imagine any manager in world football taking over the club without using him as a starter.

He’s very quickly established himself as similarly crucial to his national team, and according to former Manchester United midfielder Luke Chadwick, he’s truly undroppable for Gareth Southgate’s England now too:

“I think Mason Mount will continue to start, he’s not just a ball player but he puts the work in too. The wide positions are maybe a bit more up for grabs, but Foden played well and Sterling was superb. He wouldn’t be making the team weaker though with the options he’s got, so if Sterling and Foden come out there’s Rashford and Grealish, but I think Mount’s the one I can’t see coming out of the team because of how much Southgate seems to think of him,” Chadwick said in an exclusive interview on Caughtoffside.

Mount was excellent in England’s first game at Euro 2020, providing some wicked crosses and running himself into the ground in the manner we’ve come to expect from him as the Three Lions beat Croatia.

We reckon he’s so important that, should England defeat Scotland on Friday and guarantee themselves qualification to the next round, he will be rested in the third group game against Czechia.

We certainly hope so – he’s played a crazy number of games this season, and England might still have quite a few left in this tournament. Southgate knows how important it will be to keep your best players as fresh as possible.
