Former Liverpool centre-back Dejan Lovren has taken to Twitter to offer his reaction to the Super League being announced on Sunday night.

Lovren has hit out at the idea of the Super League and claims that no one is thinking about the bigger picture of the impact it will have and are only concentrating on the financial situation.

This comes after Liverpool confirmed that they are one of the 12 founding members of the proposed competition to replace the Champions League, along with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Barcelona.

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

The Super League was only announced over the weekend and is still in its infancy, so it is difficult to judge exactly how damaging it could be for football at this moment in time. There is still scope for negotiations and changes to be made to adapt it and make sure that everyone, or at least the majority, of players, fans and clubs in the professional game are content with it.

So, whilst people – like Lovren – may not be happy with the initial structure that has been proposed by the 12 clubs, nothing appears to be set in stone right now. UEFA, FIFA and other organisations could still have a chance to hash out a better solution and it will be interesting to see what they can come up with if that is going to the case.
