Charlton Athletic have completed the signing of defender Sophie O’Rourke on a one-year deal.

The Addicks confirmed the transfer this afternoon via a post on their official club website.

O’Rourke moves to The Oakwood on a free transfer after leaving former club Lewes at the end of last season. The 23-year-old spent the best part of four seasons with The Rookettes in which she made 59 appearances for the club in the Barclays Women’s Championship. She helped Lewes to establish themselves as a household name in the second tier.

After completing her move to Charlton Athletic, O’Rourke said “I am really happy to be here I am excited for the season to start, I feel like I have reached that stage of my career where I am ready for a new challenge.

“I had been at Lewes for four years, so, I feel like I have a good understanding of the league and certain players within it as well, so I feel like I can bring that to Charlton.”

O’Rourke has become the fifth player to join Charlton Athletic so far this summer. The Addicks have also added Angela Addison, Freda Ayisi, Corinne Henson and Emily Simpkins in the summer transfer window.
