Former Leicester City boss Jonathan Morgan has been appointed as the new head coach of FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division club Burnley according to reports on The Clarettes’ official website.

Morgan becomes the permanent replacement for former Burnley boss Matt Bee who left his position late last year. Full details of Morgan’s contract have been left undisclosed by the Lancashire club.

Morgan has been out of work since leaving his position as Leicester City manager in November. The decision was made following the club’s difficult start to life in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League. Morgan spent more than seven years with The Foxes, guiding the club up three levels of the footballing pyramid to the top flight. Leicester City were FA Women’s Championship title-winners in 2020/2021.

After being appointed Burnley head coach, Morgan said “It’s a great feeling, I’m honoured to be honest, to come to such a fantastic football club like Burnley. From my point of view, I’ve heard a lot of good things about Burnley behind the scenes for the last couple of years and it’s a club that I’ve followed quite closely seeing their rise through the leagues.

“Burnley are definitely a club on the up and their commitment to move forwards was one of the biggest pulls for me to come here.”

Morgan’s new role at Burnley sees him take over a club which finished fourth in this season’s FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division. The club have long term ambitions of entering the elite game, something which Morgan will be expected to achieve.
