Former Inter goalkeeper has hit back at Napoli manager Antonio Conte following the latter’s latest media outburst. Conte lashed out at match officials following a dramatic 1-1 Serie A draw at Giuseppe Meazza last Sunday.

Napoli narrowly avoided defeat at Inter despite taking an early lead through Scott McTominay. Hakan Calhanoglu restored parity on the stroke of halftime. However, the crucial moment took place in the 74th minute.

Referee Maurizio Mariani awarded Inter a penalty after Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa brought Denzel Dumfries down in the box. Though the contact seemed thin, VAR refused to intervene, sending Calhanoglu to the stop.

However, the Turkish midfielder squandered his first penalty in the Inter shirt. Despite taking a point, Conte was furious. But his hypocrisy hasn’t gone unnoticed.

Serie A officials punished Mariani for handing Inter a ‘soft penalty,‘ temporarily demoting him to Serie B. However, Napoli benefited from an identical situation at Empoli a month ago.

Rosario Abisso penalized the Empoli defender for a similar challenge on Matteo Politano, resulting in Napoli’s 1-0 triumph at the Carlo Castellani. However, the former Inter manager understandably failed to mention the controversy in his post-match conference when it suited him.
