Wrexham have now announced the transfer, and whilst they haven’t confirmed the fee, they have disclosed that Sheaf has signed a three-year deal with an option for a fourth.

27-year-old Sheaf has played the last five seasons at Coventry City, initially signing on loan from Arsenal before making the deal permanent in 2021. He’s played in the Championship in each of those five seasons, making 177 appearances for Coventry.

“The trajectory the club is on, I’m excited to be on board with that,” Sheaf said. “From speaking to the manager, and from the ambition of the owners, it’s clear it’s only going one way. I’m looking forward to contributing.

“Change is always good, the move gets me out of my comfort zone – I’ve had some really good moments with Coventry and some memorable times but it’s come to a time to look for something new and something exciting.

“When the opportunity to move to Wrexham came up, it’s something I really wanted to be able to do – I’m excited to get started now.”

Sheaf spent seven years with Arsenal, and he now joins former Arsenal academy goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo at Wrexham.

Wrexham’s ambition is obviously to achieve promotion to the Premier League, though they’ve only just been promoted to the Championship this year, and they sit 15th after four games.

There’s work to be done, and this season may end up being more about maintaining their position in England’s second tier. But Sheaf will hope to be one of the additions that ultimately spurred them on to greater heights.
