Former Gunner Matt Turner currently plays his football for Nottingham Forest, but reports suggest he’s set for a deadline-day switch to Crystal Palace.

Sami Mokbel of the Daily Mail reported on Friday morning that Palace were in talks to sign Turner on loan, and Fabrizio Romano then confirmed that a deal had been agreed, with a medical scheduled.

James Benge reports for CBS Sports that it will be a loan move, with the hope that it puts him nearer to a starting spot.

When Turner moved from Arsenal to Forest in 2023, he had hoped to earn regular football with his new club. But after two separate spells in the team during his first campaign with his new club, he dropped out of the side from February onwards.

Forest also signed Matz Sels in January and Carlos Miguel this summer, further increasing the competition for Turner.

Turner is unlikely to start ahead of Dean Henderson at Palace, but he’ll at least move from third-choice to second-choice, raising the possibility that he could break into the starting lineup through strong cup performances, or an injury or suspension.

30-year-old Turner spent one season with Arsenal, keeping four clean sheets in seven appearances as he played a backup role to Aaron Ramsdale. That substitute role pushed him to move to Forest for regular minutes.

One year later, Turner is leaving Forest on loan and Ramsdale is departing Arsenal permanently for Southampton.
