After well over a month out of action, former Arsenal midfielder Dani Ceballos played his first game back with Real Madrid on Sunday.

It was only a brief cameo appearance, with the 28-year-old coming off the bench in injury time to try and secure a 1-0 victory over Alaves. But it would appear Ceballos is now available for further minutes against Arsenal in midweek.

Real Madrid are trying to overturn a 3-0 deficit from the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie against Arsenal, with the second leg to be played at their home ground.

When he hasn’t been injured, Ceballos has featured regularly for Real Madrid this season, playing 31 times in all competitions already.

The Spanish international isn’t always a starter, only making the lineup 16 times. But he’s already played a knockout tie against English opposition this season, starting both matches as Real Madrid eliminated Manchester City 6-3 on aggregate.

Ceballos also made an appearance from the bench as Real Madrid lost to Liverpool in November.

Federico Valverde and David Alaba both shook off knocks to feature in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad against Alaves on Sunday, with Aurelien Tchouameni also returning after his first-leg suspension against Arsenal. All three players should be available for the quarter-final second leg.
