Corse Matin report this week that nine individuals, which include current and former directors of fifth-tier club Gazélec Ajaccio, were remanded in custody on Tuesday as part of an investigation overseen by Marseille-based magistrates. As the outlet reports, this is the second financial investigation into the former top-flight club.
Several of the individuals were released during the day without any charges being pushed, while some of those remaining included the current and former directors in question. Their lawyers are aware of the charges against them but have declined to comment. After the end of their custody, three former directors have seen a trial date set in Marseille for February 8 and 9.
The Corsicans were in Ligue 1 as recently as the 2015/16 season, but have found themselves mired in a number of off-pitch issues. Three of the club’s former presidents are set to appear in court on the same dates, as reported by L’Équipe, ownership this past summer.
