Former Corinthians president Andrés Sanchez has revealed that the club made an aggressive approach to land Gabigol back before he signed for Flamengo.
In an interview for the podcast ‘De Lavada’, Sanchez told behind the scenes that Gabigol was nearly signed by the São Paulo club but Flamengo’s financial strength ended up denying the striker’s arrival.
“The one who tried to bring Gabigol to Corinthians was Duílio Monteiro Alves, who was my director,” he said.
“I authorized it, but an amount arrived and Flamengo went there and covered it.
“The next amount proposed by Flamengo was not enough for us to cover. You have to know how to lose too.”
Instead, Gabigol has now become a Flamengo legend, scoring over 100 goals for the club.
