Former Chelsea player “would be very surprised” if club have ended pursuit of quality player

One former Chelsea player would be very surprised if Chelsea have ended their pursuit in trying to sign one new quality player.

It’s not exactly blown up with big Chelsea transfer news but this is probably because at the moment the club have been concentrating on playing in the Club World Cup.

I’m fully convinced Chelsea will go for a goalkeeper still this window but it is something that will happen later on in the window. And despite the Mike Maignan thing consistently being played down now, I can still see Chelsea going back for him.

There is also a situation bubbling up with Andrey Santos, who will be disappointed not to have played yet for Chelsea in the Club World Cup and will surely be weighing up his own future right now. The Santos noise is soon going to start increasing.

Chelsea would be stupid to end Maignan pursuit

Back to Maignan, and in my view, Chelsea would be stupid if they ended their pursuit of him as some are claiming.

Mike Maignan celebrates a save.

Maignan instantly upgrades what Chelsea already have and really improves them and also, he is available for a cheap price because he has just one year left on his contract. He also wants to join Chelsea so personal terms wont even be a problem.

Minto would be surprised

Former Blues left back Scott Minto is not buying that Chelsea have ended their pursuit though, and neither am I.

“They [Chelsea] have allegedly ended their pursuit of Mike Maignan, but I would be very surprised if that was the case.”

I think Chelsea just need to sell some goalkeepers themselves first to be able to sign Maignan and also, they need to be shown to be strong in negotiations and not desperate to land a new goalkeeper.
