Lazio winger Gustav Isaksen insists he only had eyes for Lazio even when he was tipped to leave the club in the summer.
The 23-year-old had his highs and lows during his first season at the club. Just when he was beginning to cement himself as a prominent player at Maurizio Sarri’s court, Igor Tudor’s arrival relegated him to the bench. Therefore, a section of fans and observers expected him to leave last summer, especially when Celtic came knocking on the door.
Nevertheless, the Dane decided to stay put and has now been rewarded for his tenacity with a regular starting spot in Marco Baroni’s team. So after scoring the second goal in Lazio’s 2-0 win over Twente in the Europa League, Isaksen revealed he never thought about leaving the club, while insisting he still a large room for improvement in his post-match interview (via La Lazio Siamo Noi).
I want to do more. Last season, I only scored three goals, but this term, I have to do more. Goals and assists to help the team, I feel Baroni’s trust, so I have to give something back. I can do much more. I feel good now within the team and the coach has faith in me. From day one I said I wanted to stay at Lazio and I didn’t want to go to any other club, and that’s how it went in the end.
Isaksen also praised Lazio’s display after earning their third straight win in the Europa League.

So we must continue on this path both in the league and against FC Porto in our next European outing. We can do even better, we have a difficult schedule with many games to play, so we must do well. Our thoughts are already on the next contest against Genoa.
