Anthony Stokes has joined Iranian club side Tractor Sazi on a free transfer.

The former Celtic striker, who began his career with Arsenal and has nine caps for the Republic of Ireland, was on the lookout for a new team after leaving Greek side Apollon Smyrnis whom he had joined from Hibernian in February.

Still only 29, Stokes will play under former Wales boss John Toshack in the Persian Gulf Pro League and will wear the number seven shirt.

The forward has signed a two-year deal having reportedly trained with St Mirren earlier this summer.

Aston Villa graduate and former Rangers midfielder Harry Forrester also signed for Tractor this week.
