Hartlepool manager Paul Hartley has signed Brody Paterson after he was released by Celtic. The 21-year-old was released by Ange Postecoglou’s side this summer after failing to make the step up to the first team. After a second half of the season on loan with Airdrie, a new deal was not forthcoming and now he has found a new club.

Speaking to the Hartlepool website, Hartley praised the versatile left-sided player, who has been on the professional books of Celtic since 2018.

“Delighted to bring Brody to Hartlepool. He is someone I saw a lot during his time with Airdrieonians last season. He’s a good young player who can give us a few options in terms of positions. He has had a good grounding at Celtic and gained some great experience. We’re really looking forward to working with him over the course of the season.”

Paterson will be hoping to kick on without the pressure of coming through at Celtic and will wear the No.14 for Hartlepool across the course of his two-year deal.

Hartley appears to be capturing the winning mentality of Celtic as he looks to gain promotion from League Two. Hartley signed for Celtic for £1m from Hearts in 2007 and won two Premiership titles, one League Cup and one Scottish Cup during his time with his boyhood club. The player would give a dogged determination to the midfield under Gordon Strachan and would help win the title under dramatic circumstances in 2007/08. He scored 4 goals in 86 appearances during his time at the club.
