Celtic paid Maccabi Haifa £1.2m for the tough tackling midfielder in July 2010 as Neil Lennon assembled his squad. Kayal was an instrumental figure in Lennon’s midfield, playing alongside Scott Brown and Joe Ledley as Celtic won the Scottish Cup that season. It should have been more but the loss to ICT, which Kayal was forced off from, took the title out of Celtic’s hands.

Despite a poor start to the following season, Kayal was instrumental in bringing Celtic back to the summit of the table, even if he was forced off with injury the night that Ledley’s header took Celtic top.

Kayal made 132 appearances for Celtic, scoring 3 goals and assisting on 7 occasions. One strike came in the Champions League win over Ajax in 2013.

Good luck in your retirement, Beram.
