Former Celtic icon remains in talks over new deal with Championship club | OneFootball

Former Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama remains in talks with Dunfermline Athletic over his future. The Kenya International signed a short-term deal with the East End Park side at the end of March but in an update on Wednesday afternoon, the club confirmed they were discussing a potential deal as they announced the players that had been released.

The 33-year-old will likely be waiting to see whether Lennon signs a deal with the Championship side before committing his future to The Pars. The Irish manager signed Wanyama during his first spell at Celtic, plucking him from Beerschot and bringing him to Glasgow. During his time at the club, Wanyama developed into a robust, quality defensive midfielder that caught the eye of a number of English Premier League clubs. Southampton were successful with the move, where he excelled, before subsequently moving to Tottenham Hotspur.

Wanyama made 91 appearances for Celtic, scoring 13 goals and assisting on 9 occasions. The player won two league titles and won Scottish Cup with Lennon and is well remembered by Celtic fans for his stunning goal against Hearts in the 2011/12 season as Lennon’s side fought back from a massive deficit in the league to win the title and, of course, his header against Barcelona the following year.

Wanyama could probably play at a higher level but he will relish the opportunity to work with Lennon again, especially if the ex-Celtic and Hibs manager is gearing up for a tilt at the top flight.
