Former Celtic right back Mark Wilson has raised concerns about how soft the Celtic players seem to be in terms of dealing with criticism. Wilson played under Neil Lennon at Celtic Park and feels that the generation which followed him cannot handle being dug out by his former manager.

Lennon branded the defending for Hibs second goal “lazy” and accused his side of “brain freeze” as he continues to deliver unfiltered post-match analysis, which lays the blame at the feet of the squad.

This tough-talking style did no harm a decade ago, but whilst Wilson agrees with the manager’s comments, he feels that the players of today won’t take too kindly to such public execution.

Talking on Clyde One Superscoreboard, Wilson said: “The thing that is quite alarming is that it’s not the first time Neil has come out after a game and mentioned about the players. Today it’s the attitude of the players, other times it’s just not good enough.

“I was speaking to Paddy McCourt the other day and he made a good point. Neil Lennon was often very vocal in his post-match assessment of us and would often hammer us but we took it on the chin and went out the next week and performed. This team seem to be, and Neil mentioned it, soft.

“They don’t seem to deal with the criticism, whether it comes from outside or the manager, particularly well and that would be a concerning thing if you’re a Celtic fan.”
