Former Celtic manager and winner of two Scottish titles Ronny Deila has made history in the US with his current team New York City FC by reaching the MLS Eastern Conference Final. The Norwegian boss has achieved this historical feat by beating New England Revolution, guiding the New York club to its first final since its inception.

Deila enjoyed a successful domestic spell at Celtic Park winning two Scottish Premiership’s and one League Cup. However, the Nordic coach was part of a downsizing venture by CEO Peter Lawwell and majority shareholder Dermot Desmond, which led to embarrassingly bad results in European competition for Celtic during his tenure as Celtic manager.

However, Deila did bring on young talents Kieran Tierney and Callum McGregor during his time with the club, whilst laying the foundations stones for the Northern Irishman, Brendan Rodgers in 2016. A fact which is sometimes forgotten when people speak of Ronny’s time as the Hoops manager.

After a 2-2 draw couldn’t seperate his side and the opposition, it went to penalty shootout which New York City won in the end – firing them into the Final of the Eastern Confernce. Deila can be seen celebrating with his team after the final penalty wins the game for his side, then in usual Ronny fashion he shows his class and consoles the New England Revolution boss.

Ronny and his team will now play Philadelphia Union in the Eastern Conference Final, which takes place Sunday at 8pm UK time. The Union side he will face has former Kilmarnock player Stuart Findlay amongst their roster. Hopefully Ronny can get the better of the defender on the day and boast another famous win to his CV as a football manager.
