Former Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is being backed with a sensational move to Tottenham Hotspur. The Spurs managerial revolving door is still swinging after Antonio Conte left by mutual consent last week and now the Irishman is said to be in consideration for the role.

According to Talksport‘s Ally McCoist and Stuart Pearce, Rodgers would be a perfect option for Daniel Levy as he looks to rebuild once again following a top manager following short with the North London club.

The former Rangers striker praised Rodgers’ record, arguing that this season has been an one-off for the ex-Liverpool boss.

“I think Brendan would do an excellent job. Apart from this season, you look at Brendan’s record and it’s been fantastic. He’s been great.”

Meanwhile, Pearce said he would even hire Rodgers if Leicester were relegated.

“If I took Brendan in isolation and I was a chairman, on what I’ve seen from him continually over a long period of time, I would employ him straight away. I would be waiting to see whether he fell out of work if I was another club in the Premier League to take him to my club.”

“Bear in mind, he was close to winning the title with Liverpool. He’s won trophies north of the border, continually he’s played a brand of football that’s been very good. I think he ticks a lot of boxes.”

Rodgers was at the Celtic helm for two and a half years. The ex-Liverpool manager won seven trophies in a row, an Invincible Treble, a 69-game unbeaten run and numerous other successes before being replaced by Neil Lennon when he left for Leicester in February 2019. Supporters will likely recognise how impressive Rodgers’ time at the club was Many people realised that there were issues at a boardroom level that led to his departure, which was emphasised by the off-field mess of the 2020/21 season.

The manager has proven his worth as a coach but he also has a petulant side. There are patterns between his exit from Liverpool, Celtic and his current period with Leicester. Rodgers had enjoyed success with Leicester, finishing fifth twice and winning an FA Cup; however, he will likely be unable to match the intensity of the Celtic job wherever he goes.

It will be interesting to see whether Spurs make a move for Rodgers and whether his Leicester City side can haul themselves out of this relegation dogfight.
