Manchester United are in the process of hiring a new goalkeeper coach by moving for Jelle ten Rouwelaar, who spent last season in the Premier League at Burnley.
According to The Athletic, Rouwelaar will soon work with Andre Onana, Altay Bayindir, and Tom Heaton.
Ajax will owed compensation since Ten Rouwelaar had already agreed to join the Eredivisie giants two months ago following his departure from Burnley.
It is understood that United are working on a compensation package.
The role of goalkeeper coach has been held by Richard Hartis since 2019, but he will leave the club with his contract expiring.
Hartis initially spent 10 years at United when he worked with Netherlands legend Edwin van der Sar.
Laurie Whitwell profiles Ten Rouwelaar in his report, writing: “Ten Rouwelaar, 43, is regarded as a modern goalkeeping coach, having implemented sessions to aid the system desired by Kompany for passing out from the back.”
Andre Onana has his critics but there were enough signs last season that we have a top goalkeeper.
Hopefully, with the Rouwelaar appointment, we will see Onana at his best next season.
It was a difficult season for Onana, but he wasn’t helped by Ten Hag being unable to settle on a back four due to injuries.
United are also looking to add Ruud van Nistelrooy and Rene Hake as coaches, with Micthell van der Gaag and Benni McCarthy set to leave. Steve McClaren will remain.
