Only a few more days remain before the summer transfer window slams shut and FC Barcelona are still hopeful of closing a couple of last-minute deals.

A new left-winger, Federico Chiesa in particular, remains at the top of the agenda for the Blaugrana.

However, the injuries to Ronald Araujo and Andreas Christensen, coupled with the exits of Clement Lenglet and Mika Faye, and the possible departure of Eric Garcia, have opened the doors for the potential arrival of a central defender.

Mario Hermoso offered to Barcelona

Amidst this, Mundo Deportivo reports that Barcelona have been offered an opportunity to sign former Atletico Madrid defender Mario Hermoso.

The Spanish defender is a free agent since his contract with Los Rojiblancos expired on June 30 and is yet to find a new club for himself.

Now, it is being claimed that Hermoso’s services have been offered to Barcelona, who can sign the Spaniard for a free transfer.

Any move, though, would be subject to Barça closing the Nike deal in the coming days and are able to return to the 1:1 rule given the problems they are facing with the registration of players.

A player like Hermoso could turn out to be a handy investment considering that he can double up as a centre-back and a left-back, adding depth to the squad as well as his experience in La Liga.

A move for Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah has been mentioned in recent days but Hermoso might be a more financially viable option for Barcelona if they do indeed decide to go after a new defender before the window slams shut.
