Damm has been without a club for several months after his sudden departure from the Eastern Conference side. Head coach Gonzalo Pineda admitted the winger would not be part of team plans during preseason, but wasn’t officially released until February 25.

“Atlanta United announced it has exercised its one offseason Buyout of a Guaranteed Contract on Jürgen Damm. The midfielder will no longer occupy a spot on the team’s roster or count against the 2022 salary budget,” the club stated in the press release.

Damm spent two seasons with the Major League Soccer side after arriving as a free agent from Tigres. He recorded four assists in 24 overall appearances, and scored the game-winner in Atlanta’s 1-0 second leg victory against LD Alajuelense in the 2021 Concacaf Champions League.

Prior to his move to the American league, the winger featured extensively in Liga MX. He kicked off his professional career with Tecos, staying with the club for a year before joining Pachuca. But it wasn’t until he arrived at Tigres UANL in 2015 that Damm began to stand out.

At Tigres, Damm managed 13 goals and 23 assists in 174 appearances, leading the club to the 2019 Liga MX Clausura title.

Damm’s probable move to America would come at a perfect time as the Liga MX giants look to replace Juan Otero. Given Liga MX’s limit on foreign-born players, Club America switch of Damm for Otero would liberate a spot on their roster.
