Moritz Volz, the former Arsenal player, has taken a significant step in his career by becoming the assistant coach of FC Bayern Munich Women.

Former Arsenal player Moritz Volz has been appointed as the new assistant coach of FC Bayern Munich Women, marking a significant transition in his career from a professional footballer to a coach.

This appointment follows his previous roles as an assistant coach at RB Leipzig and Galatasaray.

Volz, also known for his time as a player with Fulham and FC St. Pauli, began his journey in coaching after a successful playing career. His connection to Arsenal, where he was once a youth prospect, adds a layer of interest to this appointment for Arsenal fans.

Volz joined Arsenal in January 2000 from German club SC Freiburg. During his time with the Gunners, Volz played primarily as a right-back.

However, he faced stiff competition in the squad and had limited opportunities to feature in the first team. His tenure at Arsenal ended in 2004, leading to a more fruitful period at Fulham, where he became a regular starter.

After retiring from professional football, Volz shifted his focus to coaching. His move into this field began five years ago when he left his position as Arsenal’s chief German scout to join Julian Nagelsmann‘s coaching team at RB Leipzig.

This switch was part of a broader overhaul of Arsenal‘s scouting operations.

Volz’s experience as a scout at Arsenal, where he contributed to the recruitment of successful Bundesliga players like Bernd Leno, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Granit Xhaka, Sead Kolasinac, and Sokratis Papastathopoulos, played a vital role in his transition to coaching.

In his new role at FC Bayern Munich Women, Volz has already joined the team at their training camp in Alicante.

Reflecting on his new position, Volz expressed enthusiasm, “I had a lot of fun and it was beneficial for everyone. I am therefore pleased that we now have the opportunity to continue working together.”

He emphasised the importance of individual and collective development within the team, aiming to enhance the players’ potential and group dynamics.
