Former Arsenal favourite warns Chelsea not paying Mount would be a huge mistake

Mason Mount is getting closer and closer to an exit from Chelsea this summer, and it’s not only Blues fans who are now warning the club this would be a disaster.

The situation so far is that Mount and the club can’t agree on a contract, and he will therefore be sold this summer to preserve his value, before he enters the final 12 months of his deal.

It’s not thought that the midfielder is asking for a crazy amount, just that the club are looking to fit everyone into a new wage structure following their mad summer spend.

The Sun have quotes from Paul Merson, who warns the Blues they’re making a huge mistake by not paying Mount what he wants:

“It’s different when you come through the ranks at a football club because you cost nothing. When you get bought for a lot of money you’re viewed as more of an asset.

“You don’t offload your best players. There are so many players that need to get shipped out of this Chelsea squad before Mount.

“The kid can play. It’s bad business by Chelsea – they should give him what he’s asking for.

“If Liverpool go and get Mount and then Jude Bellingham, who could also go to Liverpool, you’ve got a title-contending team.

“Why would you want to chance that if you’re Chelsea? Why would you make them stronger?”

We have to agree with Merse here. As a home grown fan favourite and a brilliant player, Mount has just got to be worth what he’s asking for.
