Former Arsenal, Birmingham City and Chelsea ace Karen Carney is the latest Barclays Women’s Super League legend to be entered into the Hall of Fame.

FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official press release from The Football Association this morning.

Carney won a whole host of trophies in her glittering club career including all pieces of domestic silverware and the old UEFA Women’s Cup. The attacker was a quadruple winner with Arsenal in 2007 while she won a league and cup double with Chelsea in 2017/2018.

On the international stage, Carney won 144 senior caps for England, scoring 32 goals in the process. The player was a member of the Lionesses side which finished as runners-up at the UEFA Women’s EURO in 2009 before winning the Bronze Medal at the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015. The final year of Carney’s England career produced a SheBelieves Cup win in the United States.

Following this morning’s announcement, Chair of the Barclays WSL Hall of Fame panel, Kelly Simmons, said: “Induction into the Barclays WSL Hall of Fame is the highest individual honour offered by the league and I am delighted that Karen is our first inductee of 2022.

“She played at the very highest level for a prolonged period of time, and her record speaks for itself. She is absolutely deserving of being inducted into our Barclays WSL Hall of Fame.

“Not only was she an incredible player, but she is a wonderful ambassador for our game and has gone on to be a brilliant pundit. Congratulations on your induction, Karen.”

Two more individuals are set to be inducted into the BWSL Hall of Fame this afternoon.
