Former Argentina national team coach Alejandro Sabella died on Tuesday at the age of 66, according to multiple reports in his homeland.
Sabella had been in intensive care since suffering a cardiac arrest on 25 November and local reports say the cause of his death was acute heart disease.
The former midfielder began his playing career with River Plate and in 1978, he moved to England where he played for both Sheffield United and then Leeds.
He also played for the likes of Estudiantes and Grêmio, before beginning his coaching career with Estudiantes in 2009.
He coached the Argentine national team for three years between 2011 and 2014 and was in charge of La Albiceleste during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, where they made it all the way to the final before losing 1-0 to Germany after extra-time.
