According to Ouest France, the former owner of Angers SCO, Saïd Chabane, has been taken into police custody as part of an investigation into suspicions of providing false witness to the court during his trial for aggravated sexual assault in December 2023.
The businessman is suspected of having produced, recorded, and provided a false statement during his trial, which is alleged to have attempted to discredit the women who filed a complaint against him by suggesting that they were accusing him for financial gain. His statement was described as a “manoeuvre” by the complainant and “edifying” by the judge overseeing the trial at the Angers Criminal Court.
In March 2024, Chabane was sentenced to two years in prison, one of which was suspended, after he was found guilty of sexual assault against six women, and acquitted due to the benefit of the doubt for the seventh. He had initially appealed the decision, but as per information from L’Équipe, he later withdrew his appeal.
