Paul Aguilar has signed for Juárez ahead of the upcoming Apertura campaign.

The 35-year-old has been without a club since leaving América last December when his contract with the Azulcrema ran out.

It was an acrimonious parting, with Aguilar furious with how we was treated after nine years and over 300 games in a Las Águilas shirt.

The defender claimed the América board offered him a 20-day extension to his existing contract in order to keep him eligible for their COVID-19-delayed Concacaf Champions League campaign.

He also alleged that a paltry six-month extension, which included an 80% pay cut, was put on the table.

But that’s the past, and Juárez were delighted to announce the arrival of former Mexico international on Monday.

“World Cup experience on the border,” the official Xolos Twitter account posted.

“Welcome, Paul Aguilar to the most beautiful and fabulous frontier in the world.”

Juárez will be fourth Mexican club on Aguilar’s CV, after Pachuca, the now-defunct Indios, and América.

He has a host of honours to his credit, including four Liga MX championships and five Concacaf Champions Leagues.
