Manchester United will have Phil Jones back from injury to feature against Leicester City

According to a club statement (h/t The Express), Manchester United have confirmed that Phil Jones will be fit to feature against Leicester City after recovering from his injury.

In what was perhaps one of the longest recovery periods, Jones has not featured in a United jersey since the start of 2020 after suffering a knee injury. Since then, Harry Maguire has established himself as a top-notch centre-back, while Victor Lindelof has also garnered a lot of praise.

To add to this, Raphael Varane was also brought in from Real Madrid. Thus, the 29-year-old would have not have been optimistic about his chances when he returned to training this summer. However, with Varane and Maguire huge doubts to feature against the Foxes, the time has come for Jones to play his role after 629 days out of action.

A club statement from Manchester United read (h/t The Express):

“Phil Jones and Marcus Rashford have both been training with the first team over the international break following their long-term injuries, and the duo could feature against Leicester in our 15:00 BST kick-off at the King Power Stadium on Saturday.”

This is almost a bonus for the Englishman as he could make a name for himself in what could arguably be United’s toughest test so far this season.

Although there are no guarantees that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will field the player, the Norwegian has apparently assured the defender that he is a part of the plans.

Moreover, Jones has already featured for the U-23s this season and played the full 90minutes against both Arsenal & Brighton. Thus, with the Red Devils looking to put more pressure on league leaders Chelsea, it could be down to the club’s forgotten man to keep a clean sheet and complete his return in style.
